Chris Pither’s Sandown 500 Preview
The Wilson Security Sandown 500 launches the enduro season off and always offers exciting racing and off track entertainment, which is why I always look forward to the round. The event has lots of history having first ran in 1964 and this year we will see the event go ‘Retro’ which I’m sure will bring back lots of great memories.
The Sandown 500 is an event I have raced at a number of times over the years and consecutively since 2012. This year will be my first assault in the endurances races as the primary driver which I’m looking forward to and will present some new aspects.
The track is technical and the surface is low grip which is a great recipe for close racing. Adding in driver changes and complex strategies makes it challenging and demanding for everyone involved.
Following the Red Rooster Sydney SuperSprint we have undertaken a successful enduro test at Winton Raceway. We worked through set up options focusing on Sandown, gave Richie a long race simulation run and also worked hard on fine tuning our driver change process.
With the preparation we have done I feel confident we are in good shape heading to Sandown and we’ll be aiming high
Bring it On!
